Why Bryophytes and Buildings? Do we tend to take our built and natural environment for granted simply because we are so familiar with it? I suspect that many of us do and I hoped that this project would allow me to try and persuade you to look at our local buildings and natural plant life a little more closely and with new interest.

History Discovered Buildings all have a history and often that history contains some unusual or interesting facts. I hoped to discover something of interest about each of the buildings I investigated. |

Fascinating Plants I was introduced to these small plants, which include the mosses and liverworts, during a guided nature walk on the Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh, in the summer of 2001. I found
them quite fascinating and also discovered that, largely
unnoticed or ignored, they grow on the walls, pavements and
buildings where I live. |

The Millennium Awards When I heard about the Millennium Awards Scheme, I thought that it presented a perfect opportunity to try and learn more about buildings and mosses and communicate these interests to my local community. These then are the reasons for "Bryophytes and Buildings " |
